The Georgia Open Records Act presumes agency records open unless an exemption applies. Sealed, Expunged, and Restricted Records

Telfair Place Names Affect Records
McRae and Helena consolidated as McRae-Helena in 2015. A search for an older event may therefore need both former city names as well as the current one. Searching only “McRae-Helena” can miss an older index entry created under McRae or Helena.
Milan presents a different jurisdiction issue. Its city limits cross the Telfair and Dodge county line. A Milan address alone does not prove that Telfair County holds the booking or case. Use the exact event location and arresting agency to identify the correct county jail and court. Small changes in place names are not mere spelling details here. They determine where the record was created and which custodian can release it.

Municipal matters do not all rise to Superior Court. Read the court printed on a citation or bond paper. For McRae-Helena, search both historical and current place names. For Lumber City, verify the current police service with City Hall. For Milan, identify the county side before contacting a jail or clerk.
Telfair Court Records After Helene
Hurricane Helene produced statewide and Oconee Judicial Circuit emergency orders in September 2024. Those orders can explain a rescheduled calendar, delayed filing, or apparent gap in a Telfair court timeline during the storm period.
